Richard Earl Hopkins, age 90, born May 17, 1928 in Portsmouth, OH, died on Sunday, December 16, 2018 in Columbus, OH from complications of pneumonia. A Licking County resident for 35 years, he retired from Purolator Courier Corp. as Group Vice President; was a member of the TOP/HER Club of Realtors; and was a graduate of Mason City College of Auctioneering. In his early days, he served as an auxiliary policeman for Newcomerstown and Gahanna Police Depts. Richard supported his community as a basketball coach for the Johnstown Youth League. He was a huge Buckeye fan.
He is survived by his four children and spouses: Doug and Rose Hopkins, Trudy and Hal Pieper, Judy Dee and Glen Sweeney and Jody and Don Penrod; eight grandchildren, Ben and Jessica Pieper, Ken and Vivi Pieper, Rick and Rebecca Hopkins, Robyn and Jason Houze, Randi Hopkins, Eric Sweeney, Kyle and Sarah Sweeney and Alexis Penrod; six great-grandchildren. His wife, Eleanor Hopkins Fletcher and granddaughter, Christina Pieper Thompson, preceded him in death.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 from 11 am to 12 pm at Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Rd., SW, New Albany, OH 43054. A funeral service will follow at 12 pm. Interment will be in the Jersey Township Cemetery.
