Richard Lee Horton

December 23, 1941 — July 20, 2025

Grove City

Richard Lee Horton, born on December 23, 1941, and departed from this world on July 20, 2025, was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He devoted many years to his career as an Industrial Engineer, making significant contributions at Wheeling Steel, Westinghouse, Federal Glass, and Lancaster Colony Corporation. Following this, he became a respected Broker and Owner of Holmes County Real Estate in Millersburg, Ohio.

Richard's academic journey culminated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Bethany College in West Virginia, where he laid the groundwork for his distinguished career. A person of many talents, Richard was not only an exceptional professional but also a compassionate individual who had a profound impact on those around him. He is remembered for his great sense of humor and marvelous laugh. Richard was genuinely interested in the well-being of others and was known for his remarkable skills in sales and engaging conversations.

Richard had a strong faith and the church was the center of his and Jeanne's lives.  Their many friendships have lasted decades with many fond memories centering around these relationships.

Outside of his professional life, Richard found joy in various activities that brought him close to nature. He loved being out on the water, whether it was enjoying sail boating or pontoon boating around Lake Buckhorn, or taking leisurely walks on the beaches of Florida. In recent years, he developed a fondness for Scioto Grove Metro Park, where he could often be found walking several miles each day. A beloved dog lover, he had a special fondness for Airedales and was known for carrying a pocket full of cookies to share with the neighborhood dogs.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanne Horton, and his loving children: daughter Holly Jeanne Bennett and her husband Robert Bennett, and son Todd Richard Horton along with his partner Michael Seamon. He also leaves behind his beloved sister Kay Myers and her husband Jack Myers. Richard’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Bobby and Katie-Jean Bennett, Andrew and Kate Bennett, Chris and Brittani Bennett, and Samuel and Kait Bennett, along with his great-grandchildren Otto, Leo, Lincoln, Madelyn, Charlotte, and Adeline.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mildred Horton. The impact Richard had on his family and the community will forever be felt, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Richard's last days were spent in the care of Dublin Glenn Memory Care with the support of Capital City Hospice.  Both teams provided Richard with compassionate care and dignity.
