Robert William (Bob) Dowell, age 72, of Columbus, Ohio, died, February 15, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Born November 19, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert was preceded in death by his parents the late Robert W. Dowell and Mary Pauline (Gerringer) Dowell, and brother, Dann Dowell of Jacksonville, Florida.
Bob (Capt. Walleye) was an avid outdoorsman, who had a passion for hunting, fishing and all things Ohio State. He was an expert on Oldies music and was known to dance a mean Cha-Cha. Bob loved spending time in Port Clinton on his boat with friends and family. He was a charter member of the Guernsey County Fine Arts and Crappie Fishing Society and also held regular meetings at the Christian Science Reading Room. Bob especially loved spending time with his grandchildren of whom he was very proud.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Darlene (Szalai) Dowell; along with two children; Sean (Stephanie) Dowell and Kelly (Dana) Ortman of Grove City, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Alex, Adriana, Leah, Marissa, Celeste, Brianna, and Elaina; his brother Richard (Joyce) Dowell of Youngstown; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
Memorial service for Robert Dowell will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2016, with visitation from 2-4 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City 43123.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Bob's name, may be made to Mount Carmel Hospice, 6150 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43213.
