Robert E. Walters, 82, died January 8, 2015 peacefully at home surrounded by his family and went to be with the Lord. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 16, 1932. Growing up in Gahanna, he graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School in 1950.
Bob went on to serve in the Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge. Returning home from service, he owned SOHIO Service Station in Gahanna. He ultimately retired from The Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 30 years.
Bob was a lifelong Buckeye fan and enjoyed watching the Bluejackets. He was an active member of Cross Point Christian Church in New Albany, Ohio and a dedicated family man. He was the cherished husband of Rowena Sanders Walters, his wife of 57 years. Father of Melanie (Edward) Greer and Jeffrey (Judy) Walters. Grandfather of Sean Greer and Hannah Walters.
Predeceased by his parents, Charles E. Walters and Mary Goetz Walters; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde D. Sanders and Helen Chaney Sanders; brothers, Charles and William Walters; sisters, Evelyn Walters Jolley and Betty Walters Montgomery Lynch.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Monday, January 12, 2015 and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10-11am at Cross Point Christian Church, 10659 Johnstown Rd., New Albany. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11am on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the church with Minister Cody Clark officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mifflin Cemetery, Gahanna.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Skully, 8th floor Grant Medical Center staff and Ohio Health Hospice for their care and compassion.
