Robert Fischer

Robert (Bob) Fischer, 97, of Upper Arlington OH, went to join his wife of 52 years Ruthann, in Heaven, on Sunday October 30, 2016. Bob was born on Christmas Day (12/25) 1918.

He joined the family business, Fischer's Garage, located at 9th and High, at a young age. The garage became a familiar neighborhood "men's" gathering spot for decades. Bob worked on cars well into his 70's.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed boating, hunting, and fishing. Bob was a Proud Marine and participated in action against the enemy during WWII. He participated in action at Guadacanal, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands and during the occupation of China. Bob was a quiet unassuming man. He did not like to speak of his war experience, but he was fiercely patriotic and loyal. He was not unlike many men of his generation who were humble yet, so full of courage and quiet resolve.

Bob is survived by his 5 children, who were the pride and joy of his life. David (Roberta) Fischer, (Caledonia OH), Deb Crowley (Powell OH) Denise O'Conner (Plain City OH) Dennis (Tammy Reitter) Fischer and Sue (Don) Kitchen (New Concord OH). Bob is also survived by his 5 Grandchildren Melissa Metzger, Jason Ross, Shane Gorslene, Crista O'Conner, and Jessica Tate. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Joscelyn, Alyxandra, Robert Hunter, Kyler, Jordan, Nathan, Madison, McKayla, Brayden and Penelope. Bob was a family man, above all, and he will be greatly missed by many friends and family.

Having grown up and working so near OSU, for most of his life, he was an avid Buckeye Fan and will continue to cheer Go Bucks!!

A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Graville Road, Columbus, OH 43231 Thursday, November 3 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow immediately afterward. On Friday, November 4 the family will meet at Newcomer on E. Dublin-Granville at 10:00 a.m. to process to Sunset Cemetery for an interment service.
