Robert Arthur Gearheart, affectionately known as "Bobby," passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at Doctor's West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born on April 19, 1945, in Bluefield, West Virginia, Bobby’s life was a tapestry rich with love, passion, and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A true enthusiast of spirited competition, Bobby was an avid fan of Muhammad Ali, admiring not only his prowess in the ring but also his unyielding spirit and unwavering courage. His devotion to the Ohio State Buckeyes was a source of joy and camaraderie, a tradition he treasured deeply. Beyond the excitement of sports, Bobby found peace and exhilaration in the great outdoors, delighting in hunting and fishing, pursuits that connected him to nature and allowed him moments of quiet reflection.
Family, however, was the cornerstone of Bobby’s life. He embraced every opportunity to spend time with those he loved, whether gathered around for lively card games or sharing simple moments filled with laughter and warmth. His dedication as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was evident in every interaction, nurturing bonds that will endure through generations.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 66 years, Sharon (Dillon) Gearheart; his sons, Bobby (Kim) Gearheart and Rodney (Becky) Gearheart; and a wonderful circle of grandchildren: Brittany (Jason) Yeary, Ryan (Paige) Gearheart, Christopher (Shannon) Gearheart, Kelsey (David) Gearheart, Courtney (Sean) Jackson, Brooke (Mike) Gearheart, Hayden Gearheart, and Olivia Gearheart. His legacy also lives on through his beloved great-grandchildren Clara Yeary, Emme Yeary, Peyton Gearheart, Taylor Gearheart, Gemma Gearheart, Nora Gearheart, Josie Jackson, and Levi Jackson. Bobby’s close-knit family includes his brothers Wayne, Brad, Brian, and Ken Gearheart, and his sister Donna Tal, who, along with his extended family and friends, held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Frank and Hazel (MacFarland) Gearheart; his sisters Judy LeGros, Carol “Chris” Gearheart, and Debbie Gearheart; as well as his brothers Jimmy, Homer, and Chucky Gearheart. Their memories remain treasured pillars in the story of Bobby’s life.
A visitation to honor Bobby’s remarkable journey will be held on June 16, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway in Grove City, Ohio. This will be immediately followed by his funeral service at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Dale George officiating.
As we bid farewell to Bobby, we remember a man whose heart was as vast as the outdoors he loved, whose spirit was as vibrant as the games he cherished with family, and whose love was a guiding light for all who knew him. His life leaves an indelible mark, a testament to the enduring power of love, joy, and connection. Bobby Gearheart will be deeply missed but forever remembered with warmth and gratitude.
