August 28, 1929 — July 16, 2014

Robert Alfred Martin "Sookie", 84, passed away peacefully July 16, 2014 with his daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Jeff at his side after receiving words of comfort from his son, Gary that it was ok to leave us and be with the loved ones of the past that he has waited so long to see.

Preceded in death by wife, Sandra (Magee) Martin of 31 years and parents, Welcome and Callie Martin.

Sookie is survived by children, Robert (Blanche) Martin of Clovis, CA, Debbie (Jeff) Brown of Grove City, OH, Gary (Julie) Martin of Hilliard, OH, Scott Easley of WA, Mark Easley of Akron, OH and Leisa (Chris) Waterhouse of Barnsville, OH; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including several special ones which loved going to Hillsboro, OH to stay for weeks in the summer. Among these were Martin Marczika, Ron Brown, Brandy Waterhouse, Joanna Shepherd, Leisa Ann Milhoan. Sookie was also very proud of granddaughter, Emily Bernard.

Sookie was a great fan of sports, especially softball. He played on many a championship team, he was a coach and umpire for the Columbus City Park and Rec. He was especially proud of his son, Robert who continued his legacy of excelling at sports, coaching, running operation and part ownership of the former team called Fresno Bandits, with the help of his wife Blanche. Sookie appreciated the love of his daughter, Leisa for taking care of him during difficult times.

Retired from Michael's Finer Meats and Seafood.

Sookie was generous enough to donate his body to OSU College of Medicine Program in a final selfless act.

A special thank you to the staff at Carroll Place, where he resided, for the loving care and friendship they provided.
