Listen to Obituary

Robert M. Oyster, 74, of Longwood, Florida passed away unexpectedly on June 29, 2025. Robert “Bob” was born April 22, 1951 in Mansfield, Ohio. He was the youngest child of the late Clarence and Gladys Oyster of Bellville, Ohio. Bob graduated from Clear Fork High School in the Class of 1969 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Bowling Green State University. He participated in cross country in both high school and college.

He resided and worked in Toledo, Ohio for many years and finished his career with Frontier Communications, retiring in 2017. He then moved to Florida and made his home in the Longwood, Florida area. Bob was a voracious reader and could memorize information and statistics like no other. He loved following the Cleveland Indians and Browns and consumed sports information (especially the statistics part) beyond the casual fan. Ask Bob about any subject and whether you wanted it or not, he would be glad to give you a fact or statistic about it. His sister always said he was a walking encyclopedia. He also loved nature, exotic plants and feeding the various birds and animals that roamed his backyard in Florida. For most of his adult life he always had a pet iguana and advocated for animal welfare causes.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal grandparents Arthur (Hazel) Myers; paternal grandparents Harley (Nina) Oyster; and his brother William “Bill” Oyster. He is survived by his sister Pat (Bruce) Fluty of Dublin, Ohio. Two nieces, Renae (Doug) Knuth and Tracie (Dave) Ambler of Worthington, Ohio. A sister-in-law Linda Winsett of Philadelphia, PA.
