Robert McKinley Slade Sr., 85, of Columbus, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at Mt. Carmel East.
He was born January 29, 1930 in Columbus, son of the late John Autry and Ethel Cordell Slade.
Bob graduated from East High School and retired as a computer programmer from DCSC. His favorite enjoyments were playing volleyball, bowling, basketball, bicycling, photography, and sharing time with his family.
Robert was preceded in death by sisters Norma Jean Lloyd, Joann Harrison, Rev. Rhenetta Hairston Davis, Julia Cambanis; brothers James Hairston, Christopher Hairston, Frederick Slade, Vanstory Slade, Joseph Hairston, Wayman Slade, and John Albert Slade.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Virginia West Slade; sons, Robert M. (Yolanda) Slade Jr. and Roland M. (Aurelia) Slade; daughters, Alice M. Slade, Mary J. Slade Johnson and Lori A. Slade Jackson; sisters, Ola Harrelson, Thelma Watlington, Joretta Keys and Mary Liggins Goodrich; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Vernon A.M.E. Church, 1127 Mt. Vernon Ave. Columbus, OH 43203 with visitation one hour prior to services, with Rev. William S. Wheatley, officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.
