Robert W. Held, I, 66, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2015. He was born on May 16, 1948, in Columbus, to the late Edward and Helen Held.
Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the United States Postal Service following nearly 40 years of service as a mechanic and a truck driver. Bob was a member of the VFW Post 9857, AMVETS Post 89, American Legion Post 144, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2252. He enjoyed golfing, NASCAR, coaching baseball and soccer, and above all, spending time with his grandchildren. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janet (Higgins) Held; sons, Robert W. (Amy) Held, II and Mark (Lauren) Held; grandchildren, Jared, Makayla, and Mark Jr.; brother, William (Sharon) Held; sister, Gaye Lynne (Andy) Boschetto; and best friend, Homer Cordle.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., Columbus. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 7pm. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10am on Thursday, February 12, 2015 in Northlawn Memory Gardens.
