Rollin R. Lawrence, age 81, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in his home. He was born January 7, 1933 in Guernsey County, the son of Clarence and Roxie (Armstrong) Lawrence.
He graduated from Plainfield High School in 1951 and later attended Columbus Business College. A U.S. Army veteran, Rollin served during the Korean War. On January 24, 1954 he married Lucille Brewer with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Rollin was a Federal Government employee for 37 years working in Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Illinois. He retired in 1990 in Peoria, IL as the Area Administrative Officer for the Midwest Area of the Agricultural Research Service, an agency of the USDA. After retiring he drove vehicles for Leman's Dodge City and Enterprise Rental for a total of 13 years.
Rollin and his wife, Lucille, lived in Peoria, IL for the last 34 years, moving to Hilliard, OH in April 2013 due to Rollin's failing health. In Peoria, they were long time members of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Though unable to attend church in Hilliard, Rollin greatly appreciated the care extended to him by Hilliard United Methodist Church and especially Pastor Joe. He will be remembered for his "100 questions"; his love of Reese's Cups, Malted Milk Balls, and Dr. Pepper; and the hundreds of books he read on his ebook reader (the one he said he would never use).
Rollin will be greatly missed by his wife, Lucille, his two daughters and sons-in-law Patricia and James Bisker of Hilliard, OH and Debra and Steve Berry of Cape Coral, FL.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Linda Walter, in March 2012 and a grandson in August 2009. Two brothers and two sisters also predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, March 1st in the chapel at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 West Broad Street, Galloway, OH.
