In 1953, he was awarded the Bronze Star with the "V" device (a military decoration for valor) for his heroics in the battlefield as a radio operator for his company commander.

He was one-time president, as well as a long-term member of the "Hilltop Sportsman Club". His passion for shooting and hunting, contributed to his effectiveness as an instructor and educator of those who respected the sport.

Prior to retirement in 2003, he was owner and operator of De-Signs of Wood for 22-years, producing first-class signage by utilizing sandblasting methods on wood, glass, mirror and stone.
