Ronald "Ron" Thomann, 81, passed to the Lord's care surrounded by the love of his family and devoted wife, Carolyn, during his final days battling leukemia at his beloved log cabin home in Westerville, OH.
Ronald was born in Buffalo, New York, the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Frank) Thomann. He grew up in Kenmore, New York where he attended Kenmore High School Class of 1954. He graduated from The University of Buffalo in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and through correspondence schools, later earned a law degree and his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. Ron chose the insurance industry for his career and worked in Claims for several companies including Crum & Forster, Great American, and Covington Mutual, finally retiring in 2000 as Corporate Claims Consultant for State Auto Insurance Co. in Columbus.
Ron's lifelong hobby and passion was antique cars, specifically Dodges and Plymouths. He affectionately dubbed his property and out buildings, "MOPAR COUNTRY", where he kept the 1930's – 1950's cars he collected over the years. Ron especially liked getting together with his friends at the Saturday morning car club meetings where he enjoyed camaraderie, sharing stories, and heckling with his fellow enthusiasts. He was a member of Inliners International and Plymouth Owners Clubs and loved attending old car events, especially the annual fall Pumpkin Run in Cincinnati and as many shows as he could get to. Ron was a fun-loving man with a wry humor always quick to crack a quip or come up with silly nicknames and expressions to entertain us that will undoubtedly go down in family history.
He is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife Carolyn (Stacey) Thomann and her 4 children and their families; his 3 children: Christopher Thomann, Jennifer Reesha (Joseph) Alpino and Beth Marie (Curt) Nierman from his first marriage to Jeanette (Mundhenke) Thomann; his grandchildren: Angela, Ryan, and Christina Thomann, Zachary Reesha, Sam and Rachel Nierman; three great grandchildren; and sister Carol (Thomann) Williams and her family.
A memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday April 7th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4686 East Walnut Street, Westerville, OH 43081.
