Rosalie Shoemaker, age 86, went to sleep in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 17, 2015 at her home at the Danbury Senior Living Center. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, retired Judge Fred J. Shoemaker and her son Fred C. (Heidi) Shoemaker and daughter Dee A. (Terry) Lacey, grandsons Robert III and Christopher Reischman, and great grandson Jonathan Reischman. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Chester and Ruby Marshall, and brothers Ted and John Marshall and sisters Tess Shaub and Opal Forsythe. She is survived by sisters Flo Young and Geneva Jennings and brothers Fred and Don Marshall.
Rosalie was born on November 3, 1929 in Robertsburg, West Virginia and graduated from Buffalo (W.V.) High School. A proud Mountaineer, she came to Columbus in 1946 for employment, working as a cashier at Lazarus and later as a bank clerk. She married Fred J. Shoemaker on August 24, 1950 and for over 65 years together they created a cocoon of love and support for anyone who had the pleasure of knowing them. Rosalie selflessly devoted herself to providing for her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and various nephews and nieces. "An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels...Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also, and he praises her, saying: Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all." (Proverbs 31:10,28-29)
A devout Southern Baptist Christian from the hills of West Virginia, she always modeled Christ's compassion, love, and mercy to all who knew her. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church. A favorite passion of hers was the cinema. Her taste in films ranged from Disney films, such as "Mary Poppins," to mob films like "The Godfather" and "Goodfellas."
We will all miss her; but we will be waiting for the "blessed hope" of Christ's second coming, when at the resurrection of the righteous Rosalie will be reunited with her family again, but this time for eternity.
A memorial service will be held for Rosalie at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, on Sunday, November 22nd. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service to start at 2:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by her son, Fred C. Shoemaker, pastor of the Mount Vernon City and Mount Vernon Hill Seventh-day Adventist Churches, who was proud to call her Mom.
She loved animals, particularly her cat, Leah. As a passionate advocate for all animals, in lieu of flowers, donations in Rosalie Shoemaker's name may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society.
