Rose M. Yannitti, 101, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at her daughter's home in Hilliard, OH.
Rose was born July 13, 1916 in Youngstown's Brier Hill section, the cherished daughter of James and Mary (Olieo) Mulidore. She was preceded in death by her parents and five of seven siblings, Sammy, Phillip, Pete and Frank Mulidore and Julia Aulisio. Two remain: Lucille Hixon of Arizona and Nick (Connie) Mulidore of Florida. Nick calls Rose his "second mom". She also was preceded in death by Lena Tiberio who was her mentor and a second mother to Rose. Lena taught her the value of hard work and both shared the gifting of tenacity and fortitude.
She leaves behind her treasured husband Michael J. Yannitti whom she married November 19, 1955 (63 years) and her daughters, Patti Yannitti of Hilliard, OH, and Mary (Bryce) Bond of North Jackson, OH. Rose has one granddaughter, Hanna Rose-Marie Bond. Hanna takes after Rose with her grit and determination as well as her love of cooking.
Rose will be sadly missed but always remembered and loved by her family and friends. She was the true matriarch of the family and they will miss her famous wedding soup and canned hot peppers. She brought joy and laughter to those around her and was a mighty woman of God.
During and after WWII, Rose was the original "Rosie the Riveter" working at Mackenzie Muffler which was converted to manufacture disposable gas tanks for aircrafts. Rose was the grievance steward at work. She was feisty and fought for workers' rights – especially women.
After Mike's retirement, he and Rose lived on Lake Milton for 22 years and they loved the lake. They joined the Lake Milton Association and were soon loved and adored by friends and neighbors who especially loved Rose's canned hot peppers. Rose amazingly overcame her fear of the water, even though she never learned to swim. She enjoyed every time she was on the lake with friends and neighbors who became their second family. Their pontoon boat was named the "Young and the Restless" which was a favorite of all on the lake. The family loved the water and enjoyed jet skiing, water skiing, tubing and taking visitors on the pontoon boat for Mike's narrated tour of Lake Milton and the Mahoning river.
Rose and Mike have been staying with their daughter, Patti. Rose had the most loving and spirit-filled caregivers in Shirley and Tina to care for her and Mike as Patti is still working full time. Rose was also surrounded by friends of Patti and those who brought in meals and loved to have Rose pray for them. We thank all those that impacted her life and were touched by her love.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 1 pm to 2 pm with a memorial service immediately following at Newcomer Funeral Chapel, 3047 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231. A memorial service will also be held in the Youngstown/Warren area in late spring. Date, time and location to be announced.
