Roy Bertram, 88, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 17, 2026. Born on April 7, 1938, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Roy’s life was marked by a remarkable blend of talents, passions, and dearly held relationships that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Roy found immense joy in fishing and hunting, pursuits that connected him deeply to nature and brought countless hours of peace and fulfillment. Alongside his love for the outdoors, he was well known for his prowess as a professional pool shark, having won multiple state contests over the years. His skill with the pool cue was matched only by his zest for life and the laughter he shared with those around him.
Roy was a self-employed painter, dedicating much of his working life to his craft with meticulous care and pride. Beyond his professional achievements, Roy had a lighter side that endeared him especially to his grandchildren—he delighted in performing card tricks and teasing them with gentle humor that created treasured memories for his family.
He valued time spent with loved ones above all else, a quality that made him the heart of every gathering. His family was his greatest treasure, and he leaves behind a loving and extensive family including his daughters Phyllis, Pam (Tom), Sherry (Randy), Jody (Mike), Kim, and Amy (Craig); his step-children Bret (Liane), Traci, and Joe (Bridget); his son Ricky; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all miss his presence dearly.
Roy is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Mary Lou Bertram, who shared many wonderful years with him. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Paul and Leatta (Atkins) Bertram; his sisters Penny, Gail, and Carolyn; his brothers Paul Joe, and Jerry; and his step-daughter Christina Morales. Their memories remain integral to the story of his life.
Roy Bertram’s legacy is one of dedication to family, a commitment to his passions, and a spirit filled with warmth and humor. He will be remembered not just for the accomplishments he achieved or the skills he mastered but most importantly for the kindness and love he so freely gave. His loss is profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Chapel (3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123). Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial and graveside services will follow at Noon at Green Lawn Cemetery (1000 Greenlawn Avenue, Columbus, OH 43223).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roy's memory to 360 Hospice (3455 Mill Run Dr. Suite 900, Hilliard, OH 43026), whom the family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks too for their compassionate care during their time of need; the family would also like to express their gratitude to Drs.
