Rufus was the 6th of 12 siblings. They lived in Kentucky before moving to the hills outside of Lucasville, Ohio. He left school after the 4th grade to work with his father and served in the Army and Army National Guard from 1957 - 1963 as a Combat Engineer. In 1962 he earned his Expert US Rifle 30 Caliber Qualification.
Rufus married the love of his life, Lynnola, on September 30, 1961 in South Shore, KY. They moved to Columbus, OH where he worked as a Mechanic for many years. His final job was with Jim Keim Ford in Hilliard. Rufus enjoyed hunting, driving his jeep and 4 wheeler and watching westerns and war movies. Many times he could figure out what was wrong with a car just by listening to it and could take apart an engine and put it back together like no one else. He loved his family and his church. He served as a Deacon in the Baptist church and later as a Greeter at Potter's House Church of God. He loved greeting everyone with a big smile and a hug and a "Hi honey! You Ok?" He also worked at The Potter's House as a painter. He loved God most of all and spent many of his lunch hours reading his Bible. He was never shy about inviting the people he met to church. He was a big man with a big heart and a good man who will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm, Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 at The Potter's House Church of God, 3220 Lowell Drive, Columbus, OH 43204. A funeral service will begin at 10am, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the church.
