Safiq Ismail Virjee, born on June 25, 1961, died after a very pleasant birthday on the beautiful evening of June 25, 2020, while he and Carol visited friends.
Survived by his wife of 35 years, Carol nee Wahl and daughters, Iris (Gabriel) and August Lily (Joshua); mother, Roshan Virjee and father, Abdul Virjee (deceased); brother, Hanif Virjee; sisters, Shelina Virjee (Sasha Virjee, niece) and Saira Virjee-Priest (Jim Priest and Sulimaan Priest, nephew); mother-in-law, Nancy Wahl and father-in-law, Jim Wahl (deceased); sister-in-law, Teresa McNamara (Jesse Wahl, nephew; wife, Elizabeth and great-nephews, Evan, Cooper, Anderson and Nick; Hannah Waugh, niece; husband Will and great-nephew David) and many relatives from around the world.
Safiq was born in Uganda, East Africa and came to America as a refugee in 1972. Graduated from West High School, Columbus, 1979 and Columbus College of Art and Design, 1984.
Retired 391st MP, Army Reserves. He began his military career in 1984 at Ft. Bragg, 18th Airborne Corps, where he ran the graphics shop and jumped as a paratrooper. Employed as a Department of Defense Civilian Technician, Staff Operations and Training Specialist for the 391st. He felt a profound duty to serve all the Troops that he worked for in his 30-plus Army Career with humor, ferocity and expertise.
Safiq was an artist, a seeker of truth, a thinker. His primary approach to life was his personal integrity. He lived genuinely with honesty, generosity and deep love for his family and those he would call friends.
