Listen to Obituary

Samuel Ronald Orlando, known to many as Ron, passed away on September 6, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 87.

Ron was born on June 13, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan. He lived a life marked by service, faith, and devotion to the people around him. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that reflected his sense of duty and commitment.

He gave generously of his time to others throughout the years. Ron loved teaching literacy classes at the Columbus Literacy Council for many years, helping others learn and grow. He was also proud to help run three Bible study programs for more than 25 years for nursing homes across the city of Columbus, sharing encouragement and fellowship with many people. Along with his service to others, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he always appreciated the simple pleasure of trips to Scioto Downs to watch the horse races.

Above all, Ron will be remembered for the love he gave to his family and the steady presence he brought to their lives. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Vivan (Jones) Orlando; his sons, Anthony (Kristin) Orlando and David (Joann) Orlando; his daughter, Deborah (Matt) Orlando; his step-daughter, Mindy Gibson; 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 8 step-great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dominic Orlando; his mother, Olga Orlando; his step-daughter, Deborah Shroyer; his step-grandson, Harry Bradley; and his step-son-in-law, Jim Gibson.

Samuel Ronald Orlando’s life was one of kindness, service, and care for others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
