Dr. Sarvabhaum Sohanlal Parikh, 89, of Columbus, Ohio, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor, went peacefully to heaven on May 28, 2025.
Sarvabhaum is survived by his two children, Abbie (Chad) Kolarik and Ashi (Tejal) Parikh, his grandchildren, Anjuli Kolarik, Jaimi (Michael) Knisley, Caleb Parikh, Ria Parikh, Trey Parikh, Luke Parikh, his great-grandchildren Ryan Knisley and Rachel Knisley, his sisters, the late Urvashi (Arun) Shah, Meena (Gautem) Mehta, Sureka (Paresh) Jani, and his brother, Yogesh (Donna) Parikh as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sarvabhaum was born in Tarapur, Gujarat on July 31, 1935 to Sohanlal and Kantaben Parikh. In 1957, 22-year old Sarvabhaum immigrated to the United States. He attended The Ohio State University, earning his Masters in Chemistry. In 1966, he received his PhD in nuclear chemistry from McGill University in Montreal. He returned to Columbus and earned the designation of Senior Editor at Chemical Abstracts Service. Sarvabhaum was a life-long learner, respected and recognized worldwide in his field.
In 1960, Sarvabhaum married the love of his life, Jyotsna. He was devoted to her for 52 years until her passing in 2012. Sarvabhaum will be remembered for his love of family, strong work ethic, generous spirit and sense of humor. He loved a good joke, was an avid bridge player, enjoyed Ohio State football games, and had many other interests and hobbies such as drama, music, poetry, and art.
Sarvabhaum was a founding father of the Gujarati Mandal in Columbus, OH. His involvement in the Gujarati community built life-long friendships. He was often seen with his wife at the local Hindu temple and other cultural events. In the early 2000s, Sarvabhaum started to regularly attend church and Bible study. He shared many stories of how God provided for and protected him in his life’s journey.
Sarvabhaum’s strong will and unwavering determination touched so many lives. His beautiful smile and joy for life will be seen in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though we are deeply saddened by his passing, we celebrate knowing that he is at peace and reunited in heaven with his cherished wife, Jyostna.
