Sebastian "Ben" Ferlisi, 96, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on January 22, 2017. He left to join his wife, Virginia and son-in-law, Robert Chiusano in Heaven. He was born on September 20, 1920 to John and Lena Ferlisi in New York City.
Ben is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Joe) Chiusano and Linda (Gregg) Steck; grandchildren, Donna (Brad), Maria (David), Lori and Gina; great-grandchildren, Riley, Maggie, Sarah, Joey, Timmy, Jessa and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Rita Heiger.
The family would like to thank the staff of Home Instead Senior Care for their continuous care in Ben's last days as well as Hospice of Mount Carmel for their support and kindness during Ben's final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Kidney Foundation, 2800 Corporate Exchange 260, Columbus, Ohio 43231.
Ben's family immigrated through Ellis Island. Ben was a first generation of Ferlisis to live in America. He served his family's new country during World War II in the Army. He married his wife during the war and they spent 65 years together before her passing. Ben gave his time to the Catholic church as an usher and prayer group leader. After retirement, Ben became interested in his parent's history and went to Italy to visit his parent's birthplace in Sicily.
His most important job was as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many more nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, friends and neighbors who are too numerous to name.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43231 on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 12-2 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday at the funeral home at 11 AM. Interment will follow immediately after at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 5600 E. Broad St. Columbus.
