Shirley A. Barnes

Shirley A. Barnes, 93, of Grove City, passed away on July 12, 2024. She was born January 18, 1931, to Hester (Weigandt) Borror and Everett Russell Borror. She was a long-time active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She sang with the Women's Choir in ensembles and was a soprano soloist in the Chancel Choir. Shirley volunteered at the Grove City Cancer Thrift Shop for many years and served as vice president where she trained new members for five years. It was her favorite job. Shirley was a full-time wife and mother. She was a friendly, outgoing and loving person who cherished her family and friends. She loved to try new recipes and cooking Sunday dinner for the family was a joy for her. She loved flowers and gardening and was an avid NBA and Ohio State basketball fan. Shirley enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and euchre with her family. She liked many types of music, but she liked to sing sacred music the best. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years John F. Barnes, sisters Bette Dauer, Mary Lou Mowbray, brother Robert Borror and daughter Karen Leigh. She is survived by son Jay R. Barnes (Dawn), daughter Leslie Pritchard (Keith); grandchildren Jason (Johanna) Pritchard, Megan (Jonathan) Spengler, Emily (Joseph) Huber, Hannah (Kristin) Botkin-Doty, Gabriel Botkin; great-grandchildren Amelia and Jamison Spengler, Eli, Ezra and Naomi Huber, Luna Pritchard and Lance Botkin-Doty along with many loving nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. Visitation will be Friday, July 19, 2024, from 5-8pm at Newcomer SW Chapel 3393 Broadway, Grove City. Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 20, 2024, visitation from 10-11am with service at 11am at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church 3220 Columbus Street, Grove City, with Pastor Patti Morlock officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Grove City Cemetery in the St. John's Section. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Music Program.
