Stephen Louis Franchini, age 50, went to be with the Lord on October 8th, 2016. He was Born on December 11th, 1965 in Columbus, OH and is preceded in death by his father, Louis Franchini Jr., of Columbus, his mother, Tamara Lewis-Bankston, and brother, William.
Steve is survived by his three loving children, Victoria Franchini of Worthington, Nicholas Franchini, of Worthington and Stephen Franchini of Columbus; two grandchildren, Landon and Liam Franchini of Mann, WV.
Stephen Franchini was a 1984 Graduate of Thomas Worthington High School and excelled in football, track and wrestling. Shortly after graduating, he studied Martial Arts for many years, earning his Black Belt and other awards. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked at the Columbus Children's Hospital as a K9 Officer for many years and earned the Officer of the Year award during his employment. Stephen served the City of Columbus as a Columbus Police Officer for 18 years. He worked the 1 and 18 precincts in the Northland area for most of his career. His duties included working in a patrol car, riding a bicycle, working plain clothes assignments and working on several special assignments. Steve was admired and loved by his coworkers and the citizens that he served. He received numerous awards and commendations. He played an extra as a Columbus Police Officer in the movie Traffic starring Michael Douglas. Steve enjoyed body building, cooking, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and hanging out with his friends and family. His smile, laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed. He touched so many lives in a positive way.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 313 N. State St. Westerville, OH 43082 followed by fellowship and a meal with the family.
