Sterling Hamilton Calvin, 68, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on June 7, 2026.

Born on January 24, 1958, in Queens, New York, Sterling lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, and a remarkable ability to build and repair just about anything he set his mind to.

Known to family and friends as “Sterl,” he graduated from Calhoon MEBA Engineering School, where he developed the skills that would shape his lifelong career in engineering. He went on to serve as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he transitioned to a shoreside engineering career, working at the World Trade Center and later for Catholic Medical Center. He ultimately joined the New York City Department of Correction as a Stationary Engineer, where he supervised the power generation facility until his retirement.

Sterling was happiest when working with his hands. A gifted mechanic, he could take an engine apart and put it back together with ease. Whether repairing machinery, restoring equipment, or tackling home improvement projects, he took great pride in his craftsmanship and ability to solve problems.

He is survived by his children, Lauren Katlynn Calvin and Sterling Jonathan Calvin, as well as two beloved grandchildren.

Sterling will be remembered for his mechanical talents, strong work ethic, and the many ways he shared his knowledge and skills with those around him.

Those who knew him can find comfort in imagining him at peace, sitting back and gazing out toward the ocean he loved so much.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
