Thomas "Tom/Tommy" A. Lewis
Thomas A. Lewis, age 71, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on February 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 11, 1954, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Mable (Cooney) Lewis.
Tom married Diane (Geist) Lewis on October 5, 1985, and together they shared a devoted and loving marriage of more than 40 years. He was a proud father to Ben (Lela) Lewis and Sam (Amanda Gray) Lewis, and a deeply cherished grandfather to Hunter Thomas.
Tom is survived by his wife, Diane; his sons and their families; his sisters Pat Riggs of West Palm, Florida, Barb Lewis of Columbus, and Debbie Lewis of Delaware; his brother Doug (Carol) Akers of Conrad, South Carolina; nieces Lori Riggs, Chris Riggs, and Michelle Luke; nephew Jeff Riggs; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Lewis; his sister, Jenny Akers; his brother, Charles Lewis; his beloved pup Avery; and his cherished "Grand DOG-ter," Annabelle.
Tom graduated from Columbus State Community College in 1996 with an associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He was known as a true jack of all trades and enjoyed working with his hands throughout his life.
He had a lifelong passion for cars and spent decades attending NHRA drag races. He also enjoyed woodworking, painting, drawing, and countless tinkering projects around the home.
Despite the challenges of arthritis later in life, Tom maintained remarkable penmanship and took pride in writing handwritten notes with every gift he gave, always signing them with his carefully crafted signature. In his later years, he found great joy in spending time with his grandson and sharing quiet, meaningful days with his wife.
Tom passed away following a house fire on February 27th. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace and free from pain. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, creativity, and gentle spirit touched all who knew him.
A celebration of life was held, Saturday March 7th, 2026 from 10AM - 2PM, at The Center Point Church, 620 McCutcheon Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230, with a celebration later that evening at Cushions Pool Hall to play one more game of pool for Tom.
