Tilman "Doc" Short, 91, passed away at home February 6, 2014 following a valiant fight with cancer. He was born March 15, 1922 in Harlan Co., KY to John and Bettie Harris Short. In July, 1941 he joined the Marines seeing action in all the major battles in the south pacific.
He left Harlan County in 1947 and headed North ending up in Columbus, OH. He worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Co. until his retirement in 1979. Doc was a self-taught carpenter, electrician and plumber. He also loved the out-of-doors especially fishing and gardening. He was a long time member of the Southeast Conservation Club.
He was preceded in death by son, Harry Short, step-daughters, Judy Lett and Jackie Brandenburg, brothers, James "Garfield", William, Hampton, Carl and Arthur Short, sisters, Zola Haynes, Sarah McConaha, and Cecil Short. He is survived by wife of 57 years, Dorcas "Cricket" Bunch, daughter, Ruby Caroline Redding, step-son, Jerry Montgomery (Darlene), former wife, Wilma Jean Padilla, daughter-in-law, Sherri Mullen-Short, brothers, Robert and John (Sandi), sisters, Nettie Byas and Willie Rigney, grandsons, Alex Maust (Marianne), Lance Short (Karla), granddaughters, Casey Hodnett (Brian), Lori Downey (Mark) and Lisa Amos, special friend, Mike Pallos, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family will welcome friends from 4-8pm, Monday, February 10, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
A funeral service will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery. Family would like to thank Mt. Carmel Hospice for the wonderful care and support they gave to Doc.
