Tommie Austin passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at the age of 97 years old, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Tommie was born on September 12, 1928, in Eastman, Georgia, to her loving parents, Roy W. Haynes Sr. and Tunnie Haynes. From an early age, she displayed a gentle spirit and a deep care for others that would define her life.
On March 27, 1965, she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, dedicating her life to Jehovah God. She remained a faithful servant and devoted member of the Central Columbus Congregation until the very end.
Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herbert Austin; son Alvin Austin; siblings Donald Haynes, Idora Little, Elnora Matthis, Eleanor Robinson, Lorene Reed, Roy Haynes, and Roger Haynes. Though she endured many losses, her faith and love never wavered.
She leaves to cherish in her memory her loving children, LaVerne Austin, Cheryl Austin, Tina Thompson (Richard), Darryl Austin; siblings Tunnie Scott, Olin Haynes (Betty), Clinton Haynes, Lois Andrews; grand-children Denicia (Tika) Austin, Casmiria (Casi) Carmona, Brandi Thompson, Bryan Thompson, and Ericka Austin; great-grandchild Maleaq Austin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
To know Tommie was to love her. She had a way of making everyone feel special, welcomed, and deeply cared for. Tommie will always be remembered for her radiant smile, cheerful spirit, sweet and kind nature, and her unwavering love for family. She truly meant the world to those who knew her, and her presence was a blessing that touched countless lives.
Funeral services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2500 McCutcheon Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43219 on April 11, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. Doors will be open at 2:15. Zoom meeting information will be provided for those unable to attend in person.
