Tung Ngoc Pham

Tung Ngoc Pham, age 85, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Kim-Loan, of 60 years by his side on Sunday, April 26, 2020. Tung was devoted and loyal to his faith, family, and friends.
Tung was born to Ngoc Mai and Nhu Huong in Hanoi, Vietnam. He was the ninth out of ten children: Nhu Lan, Bang Phung, Thi Phuong, Thi Quy, Thi Nam, Ngoc Thong, Tung Ngoc, Thi Cuc, and Quang Xuong, whom all preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, Tung is survived by his son Linh Pham (Gina); daughters Kim-Thuy (Brian Bowyer), Kim-Anh (Chee Lee), and Kim-Khanh Pham (Kelly Kuo); grandchildren Minh, Anh (Cameron Colby), Lana, Teng, Vinh, Nicholas, Alexander; and numerous loving relatives and friends.
Enlisted at 17 years old, Tung was with the Republic of Vietnam Air Force and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Tung was selected to be one of only three pilot captains to fly for Air Vietnam airline. He held various positions throughout his career as a commercial pilot for World Airway and as a flight instructor for The Ohio State University. After eleven years of service, Tung retired from EMH&T in 1997.
Tung was an active member of the Vietnamese Community Association, whose efforts in 2008 were essential in the passing of House Bill 55 to preserve the history of the Vietnam war. The state of Ohio recognizes the yellow flag of three red stripes and declares April 29th to be Heritage Freedom Flag Day, when the flag of the former Republic of Viet Nam is flown in front of the State capital building.
A private family service will be held on May 3, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. A memorial to honor Tung's life and legacy will be scheduled for a later date when a larger gathering is possible.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tung's memory may be made to the following organizations: Mount Carmel Hospice of Columbus, Ohio; The James Cancer Hospital; and Vietnamese Community Association at 5815 Castleknock Road, Dublin, OH 43016, or through PayPal: VietSaigon2001@yahoo.com.
