Valeria Hardesty passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 after a brief illness. Valeria "Pete" Hardesty was born April 16, 1921 in Pennsylvania, the youngest of four children born to Frank and Helen Lewandowski.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Eddie, Frank and Florence; her husband Warren; and her eldest son Terry. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Hardesty of Westerville, Ohio; her son Jeff Hardesty of Dawsonville, Georgia; daughters-in-law Sharon Jones of Summerville, South Carolina and D'Anna Hardesty of Dawsonville, Georgia; granddaughters Sara (Dave) Berry and Caryn Hardesty; and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Avery.
Pete graduated from Northfield High School in Northfield, Ohio. While successfully raising three children she worked, at various times, at a school cafeteria, a bakery, a drugstore, a candy store, and a Hallmark shop. She was a world-class pastry chef, semi-famous for her incredible pies. She was a league bowler well into her eighties, quitting only because she had to stop driving. When she wasn't baking or bowling she was playing poker and earned a well-deserved reputation as an octogenarian card-shark. The many friends she leaves behind along with an adoring family are a testament to her genuine warmth and her wonderful sense of humor. A private family service will be held at a later date in Westerville.
