Veldon Hammond, 80 of Columbus, passed away at the VA Medical Center in Dayton on April 18, 2014. Born on February 6, 1934 to the late Charlie and Reva (Caudill) Hammond in Salyersville, KY. Veldon served in the Korean War, Ex P.O.W, he was given the Purple Heart, Air Medal Member, The Masonic Lodge, Ralph R. Rickley #670 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, retired Teamster Local 413, after 30 years of service. Survived by wife of 33 years Mary (Dunn) Hammond, daughter Kristi (Michael) Sparks, step-children LouAnne (Stephen) Jones, Becki (Mark) Higgins, Steve (Karen) O' Dell and Gary O'Dell, former step-children Joyce, Ginnie and Kathy, grandchildren Aaron, Lori, Brian, Stephanie, Jill, Scott, Alyssa, Brooke, Tiffany, Stevie and Nicholas, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Helen (Alex) Hayes and Sylvia Jean Edsell, nephew Jeff (Jenny) Edsell. Preceded in death by son Paul Hammond, step-son Tom O'Dell and grandson Brett Sutton.
