Vincent Gill, 92, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015.
He is survived by his sister, Anita (Chet) Croce; nieces and nephews, Richard (Arlene) Catena, Carol (Leo) Linheart, Ronald Catena, Charles (CharEll) Melfi, Tony (Maggie) Melfi, Cynthia (Russell) Smith, Sandra (Michael) Warner and Chester (Shannon) Croce.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Carmela Gill; wife, Helen Gill; infant son; siblings, Tommie Catena, Caroline Melfi and Mary Benedetto; nephew, Robert Catena; niece, Mary Ann Melfi-Thompson.
He graduated from Central High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps.
Vince attended numerous military schools before leaving for overseas duty during WWII.
He was a member of the 20th Air Force 44th Bomb Squadron 40th Bomb Group.
Vince served in the China, Burma and India area. From there he was assigned to Tinian Island.
It was in Tinian that the Atomic Bomb was launched and dropped on Japan. This brought the war to an end.
He was a Senior Claims Representative for 32 years with State Auto Mutual Insurance Company.
Vince graduated from Bliss College on his return to the States.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 10, 2015 from 2:00-6:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus.
Funeral mass will be Monday, May 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 1582 Ferris Rd. Columbus.
Interment will be in Dayton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd. SE Newark, OH 43055.
