Virginia Thompson

Virginia (Ginnie) Thompson, age 93, passed away peacefully on 5/16/25. Born in Akron to the late Durward and Lucibelle Dunford, she graduated from East High School, worked for Goodyear and was married to the love of her life, the late Thomas Thompson Sr for 66 wonderful years.

She spent many, many years taking loving care of her physically and mentally challenged late sons Thomas Jr and Timothy Thompson and later, husband Tom after his two life threatening motorcycle accidents; she never, ever complained.

Virginia was a voracious reader and all her boys have fond memories of sitting in her lap while listening to far away adventures pour forth from colorful books.

She was a true adventurer and would never fail to enthusiastically inspect every insect, bird, turtle, snake, mouse or other wild creature that her sons would bring home.

Virginia's made-from-scratch fudge was world class but her true culinary achievement was her mouth-watering Christmas Snowball cookies- they will be missed.

She loved to travel and New Orleans, San Francisco, England and Ireland were some of her favorites.

A loving and supportive mother to her five sons, Virginia was a fierce "Momma Bear" defender of her family.

A strong woman of faith, Virginia would be the first person to offer prayers for any suffering family members or friends.

Virginia loved music, she loved dancing, she loved Life, she loved family and she loved God.

Her parents, husband Tom, sons Tom Jr and Tim, Brother Dan Dunford, sisters Theresa Dunford and Jacqueline Dzubara are all with her now in Heaven.

Virginia is survived by sons Daniel, Matthew and Michael Thompson ( Rebekah), Grandchildren Joshua (Erica), Wesley Thompson and Madison Smith (Ben) and an incredible number of amazing nieces and nephews.

Service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at The Visitation of Mary Catholic Church, 55 Broad St, Akron, OH 44305; viewing will be from 10AM- 10:45AM, Mass at 11AM with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
