Visola Marie Ford was the first child born to Mae Pearl Rice and Thomas Richie on May 12, 1932. She was reared by her grandparents, Sam and Amelia Rice.
Visola attended Boley Elementary and Boley High School through the 11th grade, after which she moved to Toledo, OH. and graduated from Scott High School. Also, Visola was a graduate of Northwestern Ohio Training School and Flower Hospital as an LPN. She later moved to Columbus, OH where she worked at White Cross and Riverside Methodist Hospital from which she retired after 35 years of service.
Visola was preceded in death by her first son as an infant, Anthony, her mother, Pearl Long, and two brothers, Duane Douglas Thompson and William Harold Thompson.
Visola is survived by her loving husband for over 50 years, Ralph Ford, her two sons, Edwin (Mary) Brooks and Farley Darnell Brooks, and two sisters, Freddie Elaine (Royce) Esters of Compton, CA and Shirley Ann King of Kansas City, MO.
Visola leaves to cherish her memory one granddaughter, Carmen (Lance) Davenport, one grandson, Brenton D. Brooks, five great-granddaughters and one sister-in-law, Charlotte Minnis. She also leaves a host of other family members, friends and former associates.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 10 to 11am at Hebrew Baptist Church, 1338 Gault St., Columbus, OH 43205 where a funeral ceremony will begin at 11am. She will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery. Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus NE Chapel is serving the family.
