William “Bill” Joseph Rheyne, 96, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born to Harmon P. and Florence Rheyne, Bill grew up on the family farm, where his deep appreciation for hard work, family, and faith took root. He carried those values throughout his life and career, working for Pepsi, Xerox, and later Printex, where he was admired for his dedication, humor, and integrity. At one point, Bill worked two jobs to provide for his seven children — a true testament to his selflessness and unwavering commitment to his family.
A proud colon cancer survivor, Bill showed remarkable strength and resilience in everything he faced. Just weeks after breaking his back in a car accident, he was back on his feet—walking the Survivor’s Lap at his local Relay For Life event, a moment that perfectly captured his unstoppable spirit.
Bill loved John Deere tractors, Ohio State and Notre Dame football, and could talk about Joe Burrow and the Bengals for hours. His Catholic faith guided him through life’s challenges and gave him great peace in his final days.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; parents, Florence and Harmon; sister, Kathryn; daughter, Pauline Thacker; grandson, Joseph Thacker; son-in-law, Jay Smith; and daughter-in-law, Pam Rheyne.
He is survived by his six children — Bill, Linda (Tom) Pace, Mike, Mark (Fuzz), Patty Smith, and Mary (Brooks) Ashbrook — along with fifteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who adored their Grandpa Bill.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Capital City Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, Suite 170, Columbus, OH 43231, or online at www.capitalcityhospice.com. Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, quick wit, unwavering faith, and the unconditional love he shared with everyone lucky enough to know him.
