William G. (Greg) McCarty, of West Jefferson, Ohio, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at Kobacker House, of complications from Pancreatic Cancer. He was 62.
Born in Portsmouth, Ohio he moved with his family to Columbus, where he grew up, and attended South-Western City Schools, graduating from Westland High School in 1973. At Westland, he was President of the Student Council his senior year. Greg loved politics so much that he ran for, and was elected to, the South-Western City School Board, where over the course of 31 years, he served many times as president. He was the youngest Board Member ever elected, at age 21. Greg also served as president on the boards of The Lincoln Village Residents Association, The Glenford Village Condo Association, Westland Area Business Association, and the West Franklin Kiwanis Club.
He started in the grocery business in high school with Big Bear. Greg was the Franklin County Weights and Measures Supervisor, then Front End Manager for the Kroger Company. In 2006, he made the move to lead the Front End of the Lincoln Village Giant Eagle, being promoted within the year to Regional Customer Service Specialist. Greg was also a licensed real estate agent, as well as licensed notary. At the time of his passing, Greg curated M. Antiques and Collectables in West Jefferson, a dream of his for most of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas McCarty (Bill) and his mother, Mildred Fleta (Yeagle) McCarty. Greg was an only child. Greg is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Robin L. (Jenkins) McCarty, his children, Shannon (McCarty) Stewart (Marcus) and Collin (Hollie) McCarty, and granddaughters, Addisyn Stewart, and Olivia Stewart.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doctors Hospital, Altercare of Hilliard, and Kobacker House, for their kindnesses during Greg's illness and passing.
Viewing hours will be Friday, April 13th, 2018 at Cypress Wesleyan Church, (377 Alton Darby Road, Galloway, Ohio 43119) from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, at 9:00 A.M., with Funeral Service Commencing at 10:00 A.M.
