Willis P. Susi, age 78, left us unexpectedly on April 1, 2026. Our hearts are filled with incredible sadness and we cherish the abundance of memories, stories and experiences he gave us throughout his lifetime. He was born on March 13, 1948 to his loving parents Joseph and Mary Susi. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio and was known as “Willie”.
He graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1966 and went on to the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam war. His deep love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing, not only took him to the western U.S. and Canada as a bear hunting guide but formed years of memories with his hunting buddies who are loyal strong friends to this day. He was especially proud of his association with Boy Scouts Of America where he shared his vast knowledge of hunting, fishing and outdoor skills with the young scouts who to this day credit a portion of their achievements to Willie.
Willie achieved career success as a builder of many custom homes in the New Albany area. On the jobs he was known as being loyal and supportive of the guys working on the job and prideful of every inch of the home. He treated every homeowner like family. So much so that friendships were formed and stand to this day.
The proudest he ever was of any house built was his own home in Galena where, for the last 30 years he enjoyed every moment living there. The pond was his sanctuary and where he taught the kids to fish, creating outdoor memories for them. He faithfully fed the deer, ducks and birds every single day out of his homemade feeders. One night 5 years ago a stray cat struck it rich when Willie heard it whimpering and hungry on the front porch. Today, that same cat has a heated palace in the winter, a cool comfortable home in the summer, and was also faithfully fed every day. He loved watching these animals through the windows and on his phone. His indoor cat will miss sitting on his lap every night.
This year marks the 50th wedding anniversary of his ever-so-faithful and loving wife, Sharon, with whom he was devoted to and had countless incredible memories of their tropical vacations, Lake Cumberland boating trips and constant social activity with their vast number of friends. For well over 50 years they laughed, loved and lived.
Willie is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Susi, who he honored every day until they passed. In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by his sister, Esther Gregory (Bob), many cousins and several nieces and nephews who will miss their uncle deeply.
No matter what phase of Willie’s life, he will be remembered for his constant joking, story-telling, steady presence, his love for family and his unbelievable loyalty and kindness to friends, associates and everyone who came in contact with him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Genoa Baptist Church, main sanctuary (7562 Lewis Center Rd. Westerville, Ohio).
In memory of Willie please donate to Cat Welfare Association catwelfareassoc.org OR Humane Society Of Delaware County hsdcohio.org. He would have chosen this!
